About

I’ve been taking legit photos since 2006 when I bought my first digital SLR camera. As I write this I’m in my early 30s, single, and still trying to discover what this world has to offer. I’ve always been an adventurous person, but photography gives me an even better excuse to travel and put myself into harm’s way. It’s also a great way to enter the intimate lives of numerous people I might not have otherwise met.

I’m a Director at a great company called Friar Tux Shop for my primary job. I’m also a professional scuba diver (I actually get paid to dive!), and particularly enjoy diving the deep, dark, and dangerous shipwrecks of the world.

My graduate and undergraduate work were both in History. My grad concentration was in Middle Eastern studies, with an emphasis on Islamism and terrorism. I had originally planned on working at an embassy somewhere in the world, but detoured into the business world.

I’ve been most influenced by photojournalists and the new crop of portrait photographers who use a photojournalistic style. If you think about real life, people don’t typically stand still and smile fake smiles at each other. Real life is dynamic: families play, cars crash, fish swim, lovers kiss, wars happen, and humans are just generally humans. I feel we should capture life in all stages, forms, and under whatever circumstance we find it, rather than as bored ghosts hanging on walls.

At this stage in my life, my goal is to go as many places, meet as many people, and learn as much as I possibly can. I’ve only got so much time on this mortal coil, and my plan is to slide into the grave as beat up and satisfied as I can be.
